Learn the non-negotiable skills
Rugby Skills Academy develops core skills in both codes – passing, catching, tackling, running and kicking.
Most importantly, the Academy teaches correct technique.
These basic skills are fundamental to the game but are often overlooked. In fact, top-level rugby union and league players are still learning the basic skills.
A concern is that players are often not taught how to play safely when it comes to tackling, and they actually put themselves and other players at risk.
By joining Rugby Skills Academy, players gain confidence, they enjoy the game, they learn how to perform and make decisions under pressure – safely.
Rugby Skills Academy is owned and operated by skills specialist Onehunga Mata’uiau, a former international World Cup rugby and sevens player with over 15 years of coaching experience.
Onehunga creates a wide range of innovative drills so players practise basic skills in a stimulating and fun environment.
These skills sessions are designed to complement rugby or league club and school training.
Programs cater for players aged from five to 18 years old.
This fortnightly, one-and-a-half-hour program is designed to complement club and school training. The sessions are for players aged from nine years to 18. Core skills are taught in a fun environment through specially created drills.
The sessions are currently held in Rockhampton, Emerald and Gladstone. Register now here.
Intensive all-day programs are held during the school holidays throughout Queensland, and in other states at club request.
These range from one-day to three-day sessions and are specially designed to embrace both beginners through to those with experience.
Each player has the opportunity for one-on-one positional sessions, and they also put their news skills to the test through game simulation.
